Schecter built the Keith Merrow KM-7 MK-III Standard as an extended-range signature instrument, positioning it in the KM-III generation of the long-running Keith Merrow collaboration. The MK-III Standard sat as the more accessible tier within the MK-III line, manufactured in Indonesia with a bolt-on construction and a string-through hardtail bridge rather than a floating system.
The guitar was built around a Swamp Ash body with a Burl top, finished in Toxic Smoke Green with black hardware and a single-ply black binding. The five-piece Roasted Maple/Maple neck incorporated carbon fiber reinforcement rods and was fitted with an Ebony fretboard running a 12"–16" compound radius across 24 X-Jumbo frets. The Ultra Thin 'C' profile measured .763" at the first fret and .822" at the twelfth. The 26.5" baritone scale was paired with a 1.889" (48mm) nut width to accommodate the seven-string Ernie Ball Compensated Nut and the factory Ernie Ball set (.009/.011/.016/.026/.036/.046/.062). Aluminum Offset/Reverse Circle inlays and glow-in-the-dark side dots marked the fretboard positions. A two-way adjustable truss rod with heel-access spoke wheel allowed neck relief adjustment without full disassembly. Both pickup positions carried Schecter Diamond KM Humbuckers, controlled by a master volume, a three-way pickup selector, and a two-way coil-split toggle. The radius top contour and metal knurled knobs with set screws were further details of the hardware package.
