Description

Schecter built the Michael Anthony MA-5 as a signature five-string bass developed in collaboration with the namesake artist, positioning it as a premium bolt-on instrument within the signature series. The MA-5 carried item number 452 and was finished in Gloss Natural, allowing the Koa top over a Swamp Ash body to remain visually prominent beneath the black hardware and single-ply black binding.

Construction is bolt-on, with a multi-ply Maple/Walnut neck cut to a Thin 'C' profile measuring .787" at the first fret and .866" at the twelfth. The 35" scale rosewood fretboard carries 21 X-Jumbo frets at a 12" radius, with pearloid dot inlays and a Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut set at 1.771" width. Pickup duties fall to a Schecter USA MonsterTone-P™ (MA) at the neck and a Schecter USA MonsterTone-J™ (MA) at the bridge, wired through a Volume/Tone/3-Way Switch configuration with metal knurled knobs. The WSC THD5 bridge, Schecter Light-Weight tuners, and black hardware complete the assembly. Schecter specified Ernie Ball 5 String Super Long #2850 (.045–.130) as the factory string set, a detail relevant when re-stringing or selecting replacements for this 35" scale instrument.

Owners sourcing a replacement Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut, WSC THD5 bridge components, or compatible five-string long-scale sets should verify dimensions against the specifications above; a qualified guitar technician or luthier can assist with fitting and setup to manufacturer tolerances.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
