Schecter positioned the CV-5 as a five-string bass built around a classic J-style pickup configuration, sitting within the company's CV series. The instrument was manufactured in Indonesia and configured for right-handed players, with a 35-inch scale length and a six-bolt neck joint attaching a maple neck to an ash body.
The maple neck incorporates carbon fiber reinforcement rods and carries a rosewood fretboard with a 10-inch radius, offset dot inlays, and 22 narrow X-Jumbo frets. The Thin 'C' profile measures .787 inches at the first fret and .905 inches at the twelfth. Nut duties are handled by a Graph Tech XL Ivory Tusq unit at 1.771 inches wide, feeding Schecter Light-Weight tuners. Both pickup positions carry Schecter Diamond J-Bucker pickups, wired through a volume control, a tone control, a 3-way pickup selector switch, and individual 3-way series-split-parallel switches per pickup — allowing each pickup to be run in series, split, or parallel independently. The S-Tek bridge, chrome hardware, and metal knurled knobs with set screws complete the hardware complement. The instrument shipped strung with Ernie Ball 5-String Super Long .045–.130 gauge strings.
