Schecter built the SYN J Acoustic (item 3703) as a signature acoustic-electric model within its artist collaboration line, developed in association with Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold. The guitar carried the Deathbat imagery and Gates-associated aesthetic into an acoustic format, positioned as a full-featured electro-acoustic instrument rather than a stripped-down unplugged companion piece.
Construction centres on a dovetail set-neck joint pairing a mahogany neck with a mahogany body and a solid spruce top, bound in white multi-ply binding. The rosewood fretboard runs 20 medium frets over a notably flat 16" (406mm) radius, with a 25.5" (648mm) scale length and a thin 'C' profile measuring .787" (20mm) at the first fret and .866" (22mm) at the twelfth. Pearloid Gothic Cross inlays incorporating the Syn and Deathbat motifs run the length of the board. The 1.693" (43mm) synthetic bone nut feeds Grover tuners, and a 2-way adjustable truss rod with a 5/32" (4mm) Allen nut is accessible for neck relief adjustment. Electronics consist of a Fishman Sonicore piezo bridge pickup feeding a Fishman Isys+ preamp, which provides volume, bass, treble, a phase switch, and an on-board tuner. The battery compartment is integrated with the output jack. All hardware is finished in chrome, and the guitar is right-handed. The SGR-13AC case was sold separately.
Owners requiring neck adjustment, nut work, or electronics servicing on this instrument should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with acoustic-electric set-neck construction and Fishman preamp systems.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
