Schecter built the Synyster Custom-S as a signature instrument developed in collaboration with Synyster Gates, positioned within the company's artist signature line. The model carried item number 1741 and was manufactured in South Korea. It shipped in a Gloss Black with Silver Pin Stripes finish and was configured for right-handed players.
The guitar was constructed with a set-neck joint featuring Ultra Access and a mahogany body paired with a three-piece mahogany neck reinforced with carbon fiber rods. The neck carried an Ultra Thin 'C' profile, measuring .748" at the first fret and .787" at the twelfth, and was topped with an ebony fretboard at a 16" radius. Twenty-four X-Jumbo frets were installed, with pearloid 'Syn' inlays and a Death Bat inlay at the 12th fret; side dots were glow-in-the-dark. The nut was a Floyd Rose 1500 Series unit at 1.625" width, mated to a Floyd Rose 1500 Series bridge and black hardware throughout. Tuning was handled by Grover Rotomatic 18:1 machines. Pickups comprised a Schecter USA Synyster Gates Signature Humbucker at the bridge and a Sustainiac system at the neck, the latter governed by a dedicated two-way on/off switch and a three-way mode switch covering Fundamental, Mix, and Harmonic voicings. A 9-volt clip-in battery compartment powered the Sustainiac. Strings were factory-fitted with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (.010–.046). Binding was black single-ply, and knobs were metal knurled with set screws. The case (SGR-2A) was sold separately.
Owners requiring setup work, fret service, or assistance sourcing Floyd Rose 1500 Series or Sustainiac-compatible parts should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with double-locking tremolo systems and active electronics.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
