Schecter built the Synyster Custom-S as the flagship signature model for Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates, positioning it at the top of their artist series. The set-neck construction with Ultra Access, combined with the three-piece mahogany neck reinforced with carbon fiber rods, reflected Schecter's intent to deliver a performance-oriented instrument for technically demanding playing styles. The guitar was manufactured in South Korea.
The body is mahogany with a flat-top contour and pinstripe top material, finished in Gloss Black with Gold Stripes and bound in black single-ply binding. The 25.5-inch scale ebony fretboard carries 24 X-Jumbo frets at a 16-inch radius, with gold 'Syn' inlays and a Death Bat inlay at the 12th fret; side dot markers are glow-in-the-dark. The Ultra Thin 'C' neck profile measures .748 inches at the first fret and .787 inches at the twelfth. A Floyd Rose 1500 Series bridge and locking nut handle vibrato duties, while Grover Rotomatic 18:1 tuners anchor the headstock. The electronics are a central feature: the bridge position carries the Schecter USA Synyster Gates Signature humbucker, and the neck position houses a Sustainiac system powered by a clip-in 9-volt battery. Controls run to a volume knob, a tone knob, a 3-way pickup selector, a 2-way Sustainiac on/off switch, and a 3-way Sustainiac mode switch cycling through Fundamental, Mix, and Harmonic modes. All hardware is finished in gold; knobs are metal knurled with set screws.
