Schecter built the Keith Merrow KM-7 MK-III Artist as a signature collaboration with the progressive metal guitarist, positioning it at the upper tier of the KM series with neck-through construction, a multi-species laminate neck, and active Fishman Fluence electronics. The Blue Crimson finish over a burl top on a swamp ash body represented the Artist grade of the MK-III generation, manufactured in South Korea.
The neck is constructed from a wenge, maple, and purpleheart multi-ply laminate reinforced with carbon fiber rods, joining the body via neck-through construction with ultra access. The ebony fretboard runs a 12"–16" compound radius and carries 24 X-jumbo stainless steel frets, aluminum offset/reverse circle inlays, and glow-in-the-dark side dot markers. The 26.5" baritone scale and 1.889" (48mm) nut width accommodate the seven-string Ernie Ball factory string set. An Ernie Ball Compensated Nut sits at the headstock end; a Hipshot Ibby HM bridge and Hipshot Grip-Lock tuners with black hardware anchor the string path at the body. Both pickup positions carry Fishman Fluence Keith Merrow Custom Humbuckers, controlled by a master volume, a 3-way pickup toggle, and a 3-way mini toggle voicing switch that selects between PAF, Keith Merrow Custom, and single-coil voices. A 9-volt clip-in battery compartment powers the Fluence system. A single-ply black binding finishes the body edge, and the top is contoured with a radius profile.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — including the Hipshot Ibby HM bridge saddles, Fishman Fluence battery harness, or the Ernie Ball Compensated Nut — should consult the relevant manufacturer's current parts listings and bring hardware fitting or setup work to a qualified guitar technician familiar with baritone seven-string instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
