Schecter built the KM-6 MK-III Artist as the signature instrument for guitarist Keith Merrow, positioning it at the upper tier of the Schecter signature line. The guitar was manufactured in South Korea and features a neck-through construction with Ultra Access, pairing a Swamp Ash body with a burl top and black single-ply binding.
The multi-ply Wenge/Maple/Purpleheart neck incorporates carbon fiber reinforcement rods and is finished to an Ultra Thin 'C' profile — .763" at the first fret and .822" at the twelfth — running a 25.5" (648mm) scale across a 24-fret ebony fretboard with a 12"-16" compound radius. Stainless steel X-Jumbo frets and aluminum offset/reverse circle inlays with glow-in-the-dark side dots define the playing surface. An Ernie Ball Compensated Nut sits at 1.653" (42mm). Hardware is finished in black throughout: the bridge is a Hipshot Ibby HM, tuners are Hipshot Grip-Lock, and knobs are Hipshot O-Ring. Electronics are built around two Fishman Fluence Keith Merrow Custom Humbuckers, controlled by a master volume, a 3-way pickup toggle, and a 3-way mini toggle voicing switch offering PAF, Keith Merrow Custom, and single-coil voices. The active Fishman Fluence system is powered by a 9-volt clip-in battery compartment. Strings from the factory were Ernie Ball Regular Slinky .010–.046.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the Hipshot Ibby HM bridge, Hipshot Grip-Lock tuners, and Fishman Fluence pickup system are all current-production components with established parts ecosystems; a qualified guitar technician or luthier can advise on compatible replacements and setup adjustments for the compound-radius fretboard.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
