Schecter built the KM-7 MK-III Artist as a signature instrument for guitarist Keith Merrow, positioned as a high-specification extended-range model within the Artist series. The guitar was constructed neck-through with Ultra Access and featured a Swamp Ash body capped with a Burl top wearing a Trans Black Burst finish and Black 1-ply binding. The Radius Top contour added further shaping to the body profile.
The multi-ply Wenge/Maple/Purpleheart neck incorporated Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Rods and an Ultra Thin 'C' profile, measuring .763" (19.4mm) at the first fret and .822" (20.9mm) at the twelfth. An Ebony fretboard ran a 12"-16" compound radius over 24 X-Jumbo Stainless Steel frets at a 26.5" (673mm) baritone scale, topped by an Ernie Ball Compensated Nut at 1.889" (48mm) width. Aluminum Offset/Reverse Circle inlays and Glow In The Dark side dots marked the positions. The truss rod was a 2-Way Adjustable design with heel-access spoke wheel. Electronics centered on a pair of Fishman Fluence Keith Merrow Custom Humbuckers, managed through a volume control, a 3-way pickup toggle, and a 3-way mini toggle voicing switch offering PAF, Keith Merrow Custom, and Single Coil voices. The Hipshot Ibby HM bridge and Hipshot Grip-Lock tuners completed the hardware in Black. Power for the active Fishman system was supplied via a 9-volt clip-in battery compartment. Strings shipped as Ernie Ball 7-String gauged .009/.011/.016/.026/.036/.046/.062.
Owners seeking setup guidance, fret work, or sourcing of compatible parts — including Hipshot Ibby HM bridge components, Hipshot Grip-Lock tuner spares, or the Ernie Ball Compensated Nut — should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with extended-range neck-through instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
