Description

Schecter positioned the J-5 (item 2912) as a five-string, bolt-on bass within its production line, built in Indonesia with an alder body and a maple neck joined via bolt-on construction. The instrument carried Schecter's own branding throughout, from the tuners to the bridge, and was finished in Sea Foam Green with black hardware.

The J-5 was strung for five-string bass, with Ernie Ball 5 String Super Long #2850 (.045–.130) strings fitted at the factory. The neck profile is a Thin 'C' shape, measuring .787" (20mm) at the first fret and .866" (22mm) at the twelfth, with a 16" (406mm) radius maple fretboard carrying black offset/reverse dot inlays and 21 narrow extra-jumbo frets. The nut is a Graph Tech XL Ivory Tusq at 1.771" (45mm) wide, a dimension owners should note when sourcing a replacement — the XL designation indicates a wider-than-standard five-string nut. Scale length is 35" (889mm). The two-way adjustable truss rod is accessed via a heel-spoke wheel. Electronics consist of two Schecter USA MonsterTone-J™ pickups — one at the neck position, one at the bridge — controlled by a volume/volume/tone layout; the tone knob operates as a push-pull coil-tap. The Schecter Custom Bass bridge accepts both string-through-body and top-load stringing.

Owners sourcing replacement parts should confirm specifications against physical measurements before ordering; a qualified guitar technician or luthier can assist with setup, nut replacement, or electronics service.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
