Schecter positioned the J-4 as a four-string, bolt-on bass in its active production line, built in Indonesia with an alder body and a maple neck and fretboard. The instrument carried item number 2910 and was offered in Sea Foam Green with black hardware.
The neck runs a Thin 'C' profile measuring .787" at the first fret and .866" at the twelfth, with a 16" fretboard radius and 21 narrow extra-jumbo frets across a 34" scale. A Graph Tech XL Ivory Tusq nut sits at 1.496" width, and a two-way adjustable truss rod is accessible via a heel-mounted spoke wheel. Both pickup positions carry Schecter USA MonsterTone-J™ single-coil units. The three-knob control layout — Volume, Volume, Tone — includes a push-pull coil-tap on the tone control. The Schecter Custom Bass bridge accepts either string-through-body or top-load stringing. Tuners are Schecter-branded, knobs are metal knurled with set screws, and the instrument shipped strung with Ernie Ball 4-String Super Long #2849 (.045–.105) strings. Inlays are black offset/reverse dots on a flat-top body constructed via bolt-on joint.
