Description

Schecter built the Johnny Christ Bass as a signature instrument for Avenged Sevenfold bassist Johnny Christ, positioning it within the company's artist signature line as a purpose-built electric bass. The 213 carried the Satin Black finish and gold hardware combination that defined the model's aesthetic identity.

Construction followed a bolt-on neck joint, pairing a maple neck in a C profile with an ebony fretboard radiused at 12 inches. Twenty-one narrow extra-jumbo frets span a 34-inch scale, and the 42mm Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut sets string spacing at the headstock. Grover tuners handle the Ernie Ball 4-string Super Long set. The ash body accepts the Schecter Custom Bass bridge, which supports both string-through-body and top-load stringing. Electronics consist of an EMG MMCS at the bridge position and an EMG 81 at the neck, governed by a master volume, a blend control, and a 2-band EMG active EQ — all powered by a 9-volt clip-in battery compartment. Hardware throughout is gold, including the metal knurled knobs secured with set screws. Inlays are gold bone crosses with a Deathbat motif at the 12th fret. The 2-way adjustable truss rod is accessed with a 5/32-inch Allen key.

Owners sourcing replacement hardware should note that the string-through/top-load bridge geometry and the 42mm nut width are the critical dimensions when locating compatible parts; a qualified guitar technician or luthier can confirm fit for any component swap or setup work.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
