Schecter positioned the Tempest Custom as a set-neck, mahogany-body electric guitar within its Tempest line, manufactured in South Korea. The model carried an arched top, black multi-ply binding, and chrome hardware throughout, placing it in the upper tier of Schecter's production offerings.
The three-piece mahogany neck incorporated carbon fiber reinforcement rods and was joined to the body via a set-neck construction. The ebony fretboard carried 22 X-Jumbo frets, pearloid split-crown inlays, and a 14" (355mm) radius, with a 1.653" (42mm) nut width using a Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut. Neck profile was cut to a C-shape measuring .866" (22mm) at the first fret and .925" (23.5mm) at the twelfth. The 24.75" (628mm) scale ran to a TonePros T3BT tune-o-matic bridge and T1Z tailpiece. Pickups were a Schecter USA Pasadena Plus™ at the bridge and a Schecter USA Pasadena™ at the neck, controlled by individual volume knobs, a push-pull tone control, and a 3-way switch. Schecter locking tuners handled tuning stability at the headstock, and the guitar was strung from the factory with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky .010–.046.
