Schecter built the Damien Platinum-9 as a nine-string instrument within the Damien Platinum series, positioning it toward extended-range players seeking an active-pickup platform on a set-neck construction. The 30" (762mm) scale length accommodated the demands of the additional low string, and the body was constructed from mahogany with an arched top and silver/platinum multi-ply binding.
The neck was a three-piece maple assembly reinforced with carbon fiber rods, joined to the body via a set-neck joint with Ultra Access and profiled in a Thin 'C' shape measuring .787" at the first fret and .866" at the twelfth. The 24-fret rosewood fretboard carried a flat 20" radius, X-Jumbo frets, platinum bat inlays, a 2.5" graphite nut, and was strung with Ernie Ball's purpose-built nine-string 30" scale set. A dual two-way adjustable truss rod system with a 5/32" Allen nut ran through the neck. Both pickup positions were loaded with EMG 909 active humbuckers wired to a volume/tone/3-way switch layout with metal knurled knobs; a clip-in 9-volt battery compartment served the active electronics. Hardware throughout was finished in satin chrome, anchored by a Hipshot Hardtail bridge with string-through-body stringing and Grover tuners.
