Schecter built the Damien Platinum-8 (item 1187) as an extended-range entry in the Damien Platinum series, positioned for eight-string players seeking an active-pickup platform with a set-neck construction. The Satin Black finish with Silver/Platinum Multi-ply binding and Platinum Bat inlays gave the model its series-consistent aesthetic identity.
The mahogany body features an arched top and string-through-body Schecter Custom Hardtail bridge — a fixed configuration suited to the 28-inch (711mm) baritone scale the eight-string format demands. The three-piece maple neck is reinforced with Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Rods and joins the body via a Set-Neck with Ultra Access heel. The Thin 'C' profile measures .787" (20mm) at the first fret and .866" (22mm) at the twelfth, running across a 20" (508mm) radius rosewood fretboard with 24 X-Jumbo frets. The Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut is cut to 2.125" (54mm) to accommodate the eight-string spread. Both pickup positions carry EMG 808 active humbuckers, controlled by a Volume, Tone, and 3-Way Switch layout with Metal Knurled knobs; the 9-volt clip-in battery compartment services the active electronics. Grover tuners and Satin Chrome hardware complete the specification. The instrument shipped strung with Ernie Ball 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom #2624 (.009–.080).
Owners sourcing replacement parts — including the EMG 808 pickups, Graph Tech XL Tusq nut blanks, or Grover tuner units — should verify dimensions against the figures listed here before ordering. For truss rod adjustment, nut work, or any structural service, consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with extended-range instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
