Hagstrom introduced the Viking Bass as the Concord Bass in 1965, positioning it as a semi-hollow short-scale electric bass within their Viking line. The VIKB-WHT-U is finished in White Gloss.
The bass is built around a semi-hollow construction with a contoured top and a set neck joint incorporating Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod system. The neck is made from Resinator™ material, carries a 15" radius fingerboard with 21 medium-jumbo frets, pearl block inlays, and a 40 mm GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut. The 30.75" (781 mm) short scale is served by two Dyna Rail - Viking® Bass humbucking pickups, selectable via a six-way rotary switch that covers neck and bridge combinations in both humbucking and single-coil (outer coil) configurations. Volume and tone controls are arranged as two volumes and two tones. The bridge is a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning is handled by Hagstrom-design 17:1 ratio keys. The instrument ships strung with .45–.95 gauge strings. A soft bag (B41) and a hard case (B62) were offered as optional accessories.
