Hagstrom introduced the Viking Bass as the Concord Bass in 1965, positioning it as a semi-hollow electric bass built around a short 30.75-inch (781 mm) scale length. The VIKB-WCT-U is the Wild Cherry Transparent variant of that long-running model.
The body is semi-hollow with a contoured top, and the set neck is fitted with Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod system and a GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut at 40 mm width. The 15-inch radius fingerboard is made from Resinator™ and carries pearl block inlays across 21 medium-jumbo frets. Two Dyna-Rail Viking® Bass humbuckers — one neck, one bridge — feed into a 6-way rotary pickup selector that cycles through neck-and-bridge humbucking, bridge humbucking, neck humbucking, neck-and-bridge single-coil (outer coils), bridge single-coil (outer coil), and neck single-coil (outer coil) configurations. Independent volume and tone controls are provided for each pickup. The bridge is a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning is handled by Hagstrom-design 17:1 ratio machines. The instrument is strung from the factory with .45–.95 gauge strings. Compatible optional soft and hard cases are listed as the B41 bag and B62 case respectively.
