Hagstrom built the Swede Bass as a return to the classic Swede model after nearly 40 years away from the line. It sat as a short-scale electric bass carrying forward the Swede's established aesthetic into the reissued format.
The body and top are both mahogany, joined to the neck via a set-neck joint. The neck itself carries Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod and is shaped to the UltraSlim "D" profile, with a 15" radius Resinator™ fretboard, 21 frets, and Hagstrom Perloid block inlays across a 40 mm nut fitted with a Graph Tech™ Black Tusq XL nut. Scale length is 30.75" (781 mm). Tuning is handled by Hagstrom Design 21:1 tuning pegs. Two Hagstrom DynaRail AlNiCo-5 humbucking pickups feed into a control layout of two volume and two tone knobs — each tone pot incorporating a push/pull coil-split — alongside a 3-way toggle pickup selector and a 3-way sound filter toggle switch with centre bypass position. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a stop tailpiece. Strings are D'Addario 45–95. Compatible optional cases are listed as the B-63 hard case and B-40 bag.
