Hagstrom produced the Viking as a semi-hollow electric guitar and positioned it as a flagship within the Hagstrom range, where it stood alongside the solid-body Swede and Super Swede. The body was constructed from laminated maple with a solid centre sustain block, and the neck was hard maple, joined to the body with a set neck joint.
The Viking carried a 24.75-inch scale length across 22 medium jumbo frets on a Resinator fingerboard with a 15-inch radius and 6 mm pearl dot inlays. The nut was a GraphTech Black Tusq XL at 43 mm width. Two Hagstrom HJ-50 humbucking pickups fed through a 3-way toggle selector with two volume and two tone controls. The bridge was a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning was handled by Hagstrom Design 18:1 machine heads. Strings were factory-fitted D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46). The optional hardcase listed for this model was the C55; the optional gig bag was the E25.
Owners needing setup work, fret service, or replacement parts compatible with the Long Travel Tune-O-Matic, GraphTech Tusq XL nut, or trapeze tailpiece should consult a qualified guitar technician for sourcing and fitting guidance.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
