Hagstrom built the Viking as a semi-hollow electric guitar and positioned it as a flagship within the Hagstrom range, where it sat alongside solid-body siblings the Swede and Super Swede. This example is the left-handed variant, finished in Wild Cherry Transparent. The body is laminated maple construction with a solid center sustain block, and the neck is hard maple, joined to the body with a set-neck joint.
The 24.75-inch scale neck carries a 15-inch radius Resinator fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, 6 mm pearl dot inlays, and a 43 mm GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut. An H-Expander truss rod runs through the neck. Two Hagstrom HJ-50 humbucking pickups are selected via a 3-way toggle switch, with independent volume and tone controls for each pickup. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece. Tuning is handled by Hagstrom-design 18:1 ratio machines. The guitar ships strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (.010–.046). Compatible optional cases are listed as the C55 hard case and the E25 bag.
Owners requiring setup work, fret service, or parts sourcing for components such as the tune-o-matic, trapeze tailpiece, or GraphTech nut should consult a qualified luthier or guitar technician familiar with semi-hollow instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
