Hagstrom built the Super Viking as a continuation of the Viking semi-hollow platform, incorporating features drawn from the company's Super Swede model into that established body format. The guitar sat within Hagstrom's electric line as a bridge between two well-regarded series, combining the semi-hollow construction of the Viking with selected appointments associated with the Super Swede.
The Super Viking carried a contoured top and set neck joint, with the neck fitted with a Hagstrom H-Expander™ truss rod and a GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut at 43 mm width. The Resinator™ fingerboard ran a 15" radius across 22 medium jumbo frets at a 25.5" (648 mm) scale, with pearl block inlays marking positions. Two Custom HJ-50'C pickups fed a 3-way toggle selector, with independent volume and tone controls for each pickup; the tone pots incorporated push/pull coil-split switching. The bridge was a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning was handled by Hagstrom-design 18:1 ratio machines. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46). Compatible optional case and bag were listed as the C55 and E25 respectively.
Owners seeking setup assistance, nut replacement, or parts sourcing for the tune-o-matic, trapeze tailpiece, or GraphTech nut should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with semi-hollow instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
