Description

Hagstrom produced the VIK-GJY-U as a signature Viking variant developed in collaboration with Justin York, following his adoption of the Hagstrom Viking as a touring instrument with Paramore. The model was the result of over one year of collaborative development between York and Hagstrom, aimed at defining a purpose-built touring configuration of the Viking platform. It was introduced as part of a pair of Vikings developed for York's extensive international touring commitments.

The VIK-GJY-U is built on the semi-hollow double-cutaway Viking body with a contoured top, multi-ply body binding, and a mortise and long tenon neck joint. The neck carries Hagstrom's Ultra-Thin 17mm profile with an H-Expander™ truss rod, a 15" radius Resinator™ fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, pearloid block inlays, and a 43mm GraphTech Black Tusq nut across a 24.75" (628mm) scale. The pickup complement pairs a Hagstrom 58 Custom Humbucker at the bridge with a Hagstrom HJ-50 Humbucker at the neck, selected via a 3-way toggle switch. The control layout provides two volume and two tone controls; the tone controls incorporate push/pull coil splits and a custom bass-cut tone circuit. Hardware includes a long-throw tune-o-matic bridge with stop tailpiece and Hagstrom Design 18:1 tuning keys. The guitar ships strung with D'Addario 10-46s.

Owners requiring setup adjustments, fret work, or guidance on compatible replacement hardware — including tune-o-matic saddles, GraphTech Black Tusq nut blanks, or coil-split wiring components — should consult a qualified guitar technician.

The owner archive

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
