Hagstrom built the Viking as the semi-hollow centrepiece of their electric guitar range, positioning it alongside the solid-body Swede and Super Swede. The model carried the distinction of being the long-running classic of the Hagstrom line, constructed with a laminated maple body, a solid centre sustain block, and a hard-maple set neck.
The Viking in this configuration carries a contoured top, a 24.75" (628 mm) scale length, and a 15" fingerboard radius. The Resinator™ fingerboard is fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets, 6 mm pearl dot inlays, and a GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut at 43 mm width. Two Hagstrom HJ-50 humbucking pickups are selected via a 3-way toggle switch, with independent volume and tone controls for each pickup. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning is handled by Hagstrom's own 18:1 ratio machines. The guitar ships strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46). Compatible optional case and bag are listed as the C55 and E25 respectively. The neck is joined to the body via a set neck joint, and the H-Expander™ truss rod runs through the neck.
Owners requiring setup adjustments, fret work, or assistance sourcing replacement hardware — including tune-o-matic saddles, trapeze tailpiece components, or GraphTech Black Tusq XL nuts — should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with semi-hollow instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
