Hagstrom built the Viking as the semi-hollow centrepiece of its electric guitar range, positioning it alongside the solid-body Swede and Super Swede. The model carried the designation VIK-TSB-U and was finished in Tobacco Sunburst. Hagstrom constructed the body from laminated maple with a solid centre sustain block, and joined a hard-maple neck using a set-neck joint.
The Viking's 24.75" (628 mm) scale neck runs a 15" radius fingerboard in Hagstrom's Resinator™ material, fitted with 22 medium-jumbo frets and 6 mm pearl dot inlays. The GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut measures 43 mm wide. Two Hagstrom HJ-50 humbucking pickups feed a straightforward control layout of two volume and two tone knobs, selected by a 3-way toggle switch. Hardware consists of a long-travel tune-o-matic bridge paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and Hagstrom Design 18:1 tuning keys. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46). Compatible optional cases include the C55 hard case and E25 bag.
