Hagstrom built the Viking Deluxe Baritone as an extension of the Viking semi-hollow line, positioning it as a baritone instrument intended to cover a broad tonal range rather than occupy a narrow stylistic niche. Two pickups were developed specifically for its acoustic character: the Custom 58'C in the bridge position and the P-Urified humbucking-sized P-90 in the neck position.
The guitar is built around a semi-hollow body with a contoured top and a set neck carrying Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod. The fingerboard is Resinator™ material, radiused at 15", dressed with 22 medium jumbo frets and pearl block inlays. The nut is a GraphTech Black Tusq XL at 43 mm width. The extended 28" (711 mm) scale is supported by a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic bridge with Hagstrom stop tail, and the instrument ships strung with D'Addario EXL 158 (13–62). Tuning keys are Hagstrom's own 18:1 ratio design. Switching is handled by a 3-way toggle, with independent volume and tone controls for each pickup. Compatible optional soft and hard cases are listed in the existing record.
Owners requiring setup adjustments, nut work, or parts sourcing for the Long Travel Tune-O-Matic or the proprietary H-Expander™ truss rod system should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with semi-hollow instruments and extended-scale setups.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
