Hagstrom built the Viking Deluxe 12-String as part of its Viking semi-hollow line, positioning the model as a full-featured 12-string electric with a maple body and maple neck throughout. The instrument carried Hagstrom's standard platform of the H-Expander™ truss rod and Resinator™ fretboard, both of which Hagstrom credited with acoustically balancing the octave strings against the fuller standard strings.
The body is semi-hollow with a contoured top, and the neck is set into the body. The 24.75" (628 mm) scale runs to 22 medium jumbo frets over a 15" radius Resinator™ fretboard with pearl block inlays. The nut is a GraphTech Black Tusq XL at 45 mm wide. Two H-50 humbucking pickups, voiced specifically for this 12-string model, are selected via a 3-way toggle switch and governed by two volume and two tone controls. The bridge is a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic paired with a Hagstrom stop tail, and the tuning keys are Hagstrom's own 18:1 ratio design — a ratio that reflects the additional tension demands of a 12-string headstock. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXL 150 strings. Compatible optional cases and bags were designated C-55 and GigB-41 respectively.
