Hagstrom built the Ultra Swede as a single-cutaway electric guitar positioned to bring the company's distinctive construction approach into a modern platform. Within the Hagstrom line, the Ultra Swede occupied the role of the brand's signature high-performance format, combining a slender, compact body with a set neck profiled in an easy D shape and an ultra-slim feel.
The guitar's Resinator fretboard — carrying 22 medium-jumbo frets over a 15-inch radius and a 24.75-inch scale — is fitted with a 43 mm GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut and Select Block Pearl/Abalone inlays. The neck is stabilised by Hagstrom's H-Expander truss rod system. Two Hagstrom Custom 62 humbuckers are wired to a 3-way toggle selector with a single volume control, a single tone control, and a dedicated mini-toggle coil-split switch, providing both full humbucking and single-coil voices. The bridge is a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic with a Hagstrom stop tailpiece and single brass string blocks; tuning is handled by Hagstrom Design 18:1 machine heads. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (.010–.046). The maple top over the body contributes to the guitar's defined upper-register character. A maple top over the body contributes to the guitar's defined upper-register response. Compatible optional hard case C52 and gig bag E20 were listed at time of production.
Owners seeking setup adjustments, replacement hardware, or parts compatibility guidance — particularly around the Long Travel Tune-O-Matic bridge, GraphTech nut, or H-Expander truss rod — should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier familiar with set-neck instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
