Hagstrom built the Swede 2020 as part of its Swede series, a single-cutaway electric guitar positioned as a modern interpretation of Hagstrom's classic Swede platform. The model carried the SWE20-MDB-U designation, with the Mandarin Burst finish distinguishing this variant within the line.
The guitar was constructed around a two-piece African mahogany body with a 3/4" carved maple top, paired with an African mahogany set neck featuring Hagstrom's proprietary H-Expander truss rod. The fingerboard is Hagstrom's own Resinator material, radiused at 15" and fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets over a 24.75" scale length. Pearl block inlays mark the positions. The nut is a Graph Tech Black Tusq XL unit measuring 43 mm in width. Electronics consist of Lundgren-designed AlNiCo II pickups selected via a 3-way toggle switch, with a control layout of two volume and two tone controls supplemented by a 3-way sound filter toggle switch. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic with Hagstrom stop tailpiece and single brass string blocks; tuning is handled by Graph Tech Ratio machines.
