Hagstrom produced the Swede 2020 as a modern iteration of its classic Swede platform, positioning the instrument within its higher-specification single-cutaway electric guitar line. The Gold Top finish placed it alongside traditional carved-top aesthetics that the Swede platform had long been associated with in Hagstrom's catalogue.
The body combined a two-piece African mahogany core with a three-quarter-inch carved maple top, joined to an African mahogany set neck stabilised by Hagstrom's H-Expander truss rod system. The fingerboard was Hagstrom's own Resinator material, radiused at 15 inches, fitted with 22 medium-jumbo frets and pearl block inlays. The 24.75-inch scale ran to a Graph Tech Black Tusq XL nut at 43 mm width. Pickups were Lundgren-designed AlNiCo II units, selected via a 3-way toggle switch, with a control layout of two volume and two tone pots supplemented by a 3-way sound filter toggle switch. The bridge was a long-travel tune-o-matic with Hagstrom stop tailpiece and single brass string blocks; tuning machines were Graph Tech Ratio units.
