Hagstrom produced the Alvar as a semi-hollow electric guitar, positioning it within the brand's line as an instrument drawing on their Scandinavian heritage in name and identity. The model carried the designation ALV-WCT-U, with the Wild Cherry Transparent finish identifying this particular variant.
The Alvar was built around a semi-hollow body with a contoured top and a set neck joint. The neck featured Hagstrom's proprietary H-Expander™ truss rod and a Resinator™ fretboard with pearloid block inlays, a 15" radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets across a 24.75" (628.65 mm) scale. Nut duties were handled by a GraphTech Black Tusq XL unit at 43 mm width. Two Hagstrom HJ-50 AlNiCo-5 humbuckers with chrome-plated covers fed into a 3-way toggle selector, with the control layout comprising two volume pots wired with an R/C circuit and two tone controls. The bridge was a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and the headstock carried Hagstrom-design 18:1 tuning keys. The guitar was strung from the factory with D'Addario 10-46s. Compatible optional cases and bags were catalogued under references C54 and E24 respectively.
Owners seeking setup adjustments, fret work, or parts sourcing for hardware such as the tune-o-matic bridge or trapeze tailpiece should consult a qualified luthier or guitar technician familiar with semi-hollow instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
