Description

Hagstrom built the Super Viking as an extension of its Viking semi-hollow platform, incorporating elements drawn from the company's Super Swede model into that existing line. The instrument occupied a position in Hagstrom's catalogue that brought together the semi-hollow construction of the Viking with hardware and feature choices associated with the Super Swede heritage.

The Super Viking's neck is a set-neck joint fitted with an H-Expander™ truss rod and a Resinator™ fingerboard carrying pearl block inlays across 22 medium-jumbo frets. The fingerboard radius is 15" and the scale length runs 25.5" (648 mm). Nut duties are handled by a GraphTech Black Tusq XL unit at 43 mm width. Two custom HJ-50'C humbuckers feed a 3-way toggle switch, with independent volume and tone controls for each pickup; each tone control incorporates a push/pull coil-split function. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning is handled by Hagstrom-design 18:1 ratio machines. The guitar ships strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46). Compatible optional cases include the C55 hard case and the E25 bag.

Owners seeking setup guidance, intonation adjustment on the long-travel tune-o-matic, or coil-split wiring service should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier familiar with semi-hollow instruments.

The owner archive

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
