Hagstrom built the Super Viking as a continuation of the Viking semi-hollow platform, incorporating features drawn from the company's Super Swede model into that established body format. Within Hagstrom's electric guitar line, the Super Viking occupied a position that bridged the Viking's semi-hollow character with construction and hardware details associated with the Super Swede.
The guitar is built around a semi-hollow body with a contoured top and a set neck. The neck employs Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod system and is fretted with 22 medium-jumbo frets over a 15" radius fingerboard made from Resinator™, with pearl block inlays. The nut is a GraphTech Black Tusq XL unit measuring 43 mm in width. At 25.5" (648 mm), the scale length is on the longer end of the semi-hollow spectrum. Two Custom HJ-50'C pickups are selected via a 3-way toggle switch, with individual volume and tone controls for each pickup; the tone controls incorporate a push/pull function that splits the coils. The bridge is a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning is handled by Hagstrom Design 18:1 ratio machines. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46). A hardshell case (C55) and a gig bag (E25) were offered as optional accessories.
