Hagstrom built the Super Viking as a development of the Viking semi-hollow platform, incorporating elements drawn from the Super Swede model into that existing architecture. Within Hagstrom's line it occupied the intersection of the two lineages, offering the semi-hollow body format of the Viking alongside construction and hardware choices associated with the Super Swede.
The body is semi-hollow with a contoured top and is joined to the neck via a set neck joint. The neck is fitted with a GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut at 43 mm width and carries a 15-inch radius Resinator fingerboard with pearl block inlays across 22 medium jumbo frets at a 25.5-inch (648 mm) scale length. Hagstrom's H-Expander truss rod runs through the neck. Two Custom HJ-50'C pickups are selected by a 3-way toggle switch; each pickup has its own volume and tone control, and each tone control incorporates a push/pull coil-split function. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece, and tuning is handled by Hagstrom Design machine heads at an 18:1 ratio. The guitar was strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46) strings. Compatible optional cases and bags were catalogued under references C55 and E25 respectively.
