Hagstrom positioned the Super Swede as one of its flagship models, first introducing it in the late 1970s. The SUSWE-VSB-U is a single-cutaway, set-neck electric built on a mahogany body with a 10 mm carved maple top and a set mahogany neck.
The neck is fitted with a GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut at 43 mm width and an H-Expander™ truss rod, running a 25.5" (648 mm) scale across 22 medium-jumbo frets on a Resinator™ fingerboard with a 15" radius and Super Swede block inlays. Two Hagstrom Custom 58 AlNiCo pickups are selected via a 3-way toggle switch, with individual volume and tone controls supplemented by a mini toggle coil-split switch for each pickup. The Long Travel Tune-O-Matic bridge with Hagstrom stop tailpiece and single brass string blocks anchors D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46) strings, with Hagstrom Design 18:1 tuning keys at the headstock.
