Hagstrom built the Ultra Swede ESN as an entry point into the professional end of their electric guitar line, positioning it as the most affordable platform carrying the brand's full complement of signature features. It sat beneath the standard Ultra Swede in the range while sharing its core architecture: a single-cutaway body of solid carved mahogany bolted to a maple neck.
The neck carries Hagstrom's UltraSlim "D" profile, a 43 mm GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut, and a 15" radius fingerboard of baked jatoba with 22 medium jumbo frets and 6 mm pearloid dot inlays at a 24.75" (628 mm) scale length. Neck stability is managed by Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod. At the headstock, Hagstrom Design 18:1 tuning keys are fitted. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with Hagstrom's stop tailpiece, which uses individual brass string blocks to couple each string to the body. Electronics consist of two Hagstrom Custom 62 open-coil ceramic humbuckers selected by a 3-way toggle switch, with a single volume control incorporating an R/C circuit and a single tone control. The guitar was finished in Tobacco Sunburst and shipped strung with D'Addario EXP 110 (10–46). Compatible optional cases include the C52 hard case and E20 gig bag.
Owners tracing compatible parts — including bridge saddles, nut blanks, or tuner replacements — should consult a qualified guitar technician, who can cross-reference the long-travel tune-o-matic spacing and 43 mm nut width against currently available aftermarket components.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
