Description

Cort built the Action Bass V Plus as part of the Action Series, a line positioned to offer accessible entry into active-electronics bass playing without sacrificing material quality. The Trans Red finish variant carried the same core specification as the rest of the series. Within the Action line, Cort offered PJ, JJ and soapbar pickup configurations; the Bass V Plus specifically used a JJ arrangement — a pair of J-type single-coil pickups, a pairing long established as a standard in electric bass design.

The instrument is a five-string, bolt-on bass built on a poplar body with a Canadian hard maple neck. The jatoba fretboard runs a 400 mm (15.75") radius across 24 frets, with white dot inlays marking positions. Scale length is 864 mm (34"). The PSEB1-5/F and PSEB1-5/R pickups feed into a two-band active EQ, giving the player independent control over low and high frequencies. Pickup balance is handled through a dedicated control, a configuration that broadens the usable tonal range considerably. The EB6 (5) bridge, die-cast tuners and chrome hardware complete the hardware complement.

Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the J-type pickup format and standard bass bridge dimensions mean that compatible aftermarket components are widely produced; a guitar technician or qualified luthier can advise on specific fit for the EB6 (5) bridge footprint and the five-string neck pocket before any hardware swap.

The owner archive

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
