Cort built the Action Bass Plus as part of its Action Series, positioning the line as an entry-level to mid-range offering aimed at developing bass players who required versatile electronics without a prohibitive cost. Within the series, the Action Bass Plus was distinguished by its PJ pickup configuration — a combination of a P-type and a J-type pickup — alongside an active EQ, setting it above the more basic models in the range.
The body is poplar, joined to a Canadian Hard Maple neck via a bolt-on construction. The jatoba fretboard runs 24 frets at a 400mm (15.75") radius over a 864mm (34") scale, with white dot inlays marking positions. The pickups are a PSEB4-4 at the neck and a PSEB1-4 at the bridge, wired through a 2-band active EQ that allows independent shaping of low and high frequencies. Hardware throughout is chrome, including die-cast tuners and the EB6 (4) bridge. A left-handed version of this model was produced. The Trans Red finish is a translucent red applied to the poplar body.
