Description

This is the Floyd Rose Original series string retainer for 7-string systems, finished in gold steel. It mounts behind the locking nut and angles the strings down across it. Without that downward pressure, strings lift out of the nut under a hard dive — the retainer is what stops that.

Fit is decided by two things. First, this retainer is spec'd for the Floyd Rose Original series — it will not cross-fit to the Special, 1000 series, or other variants without a cavity check. Second, the break angle it produces depends on the height of the shim stack between the retainer and the headstock. If you are replacing a bent or stripped retainer, carry the original shim over to the new one; changing shim height changes the angle and can cause nut-lock failures under a dive. If there is no shim on the existing unit, measure the slot depth before ordering.

Construction is steel with a gold finish. The set includes the mounting screws. Steel retainers strip at the screw holes when overtightened — run them down snug and stop there.
