Description

The string retainer sits between the locking nut and the headstock tuners, pressing the strings down across the nut. Without enough break angle, strings lift out of the nut saddles under a deep dive or a hard pull-up. This is the Floyd Rose Original 7-string version, finished in black steel, and it ships with its mounting screws.

Fit is decided by two things: string count and series. This retainer is cut for seven strings — the bar width and saddle spacing are specific to that format. It is also Original-series, which means the mounting hole spacing matches an Original-series nut, not a Special, Pro, or FRX. Bolt it to the wrong series and the holes will not line up. Check the series of the nut already on your guitar before ordering. If the retainer currently on your guitar has a shim under one end, measure the existing shim height and match it — the break angle will change if you do not.

The retainer is steel with a black finish. Steel is harder than the zinc alloy used in some budget replacements, so the screw threads in the mounting holes hold under repeated removal. The black finish is matched to Floyd Rose Original black hardware sets.

If you are not certain this is the right part for your guitar, send us the make, model and year and we will check it against the system on your instrument.
