Ibanez positioned the AS83STE within the AS Artcore Expressionist series, a line developed to offer hollow body electric guitars with elevated construction and hardware specifications relative to the standard Artcore range. The AS83STE was finished in Steel Blue.
The guitar was built around a three-piece Nyatoh/Maple set-in neck joined to a hollow body with Linden top, back, and sides. The bound Ebony fretboard carried acrylic block inlays across 22 medium frets at a 305mm radius, with a nut width of 43mm and a scale length of 628mm (24.7"). Body depth measured 2 5/8" at maximum, and the lower bout width ran 15 3/4". Neck thickness was 21mm at the first fret and 24mm at the ninth. Ibanez fitted the guitar with a Gibraltar Performer bridge at 10.5mm string spacing and a Quik Change III tailpiece, all finished in gold hardware. Passive Alnico Super 58 humbuckers occupied both the neck and bridge positions. The instrument left the factory strung with a .010–.052 set in standard tuning.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — including bridge saddles, tailpiece studs, nut blanks, or pickup covers — should verify fit against the dimensions listed above; a qualified luthier or guitar technician can assist with setup adjustments and any compatibility questions.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
