Ibanez built the AG85BKF as part of the AG Artcore Expressionist series, positioning it as a hollow body electric guitar within the broader Artcore Expressionist line. The Artcore Expressionist series represented Ibanez's effort to apply premium construction approaches to the hollow body format.
The AG85BKF was constructed with a three-piece Nyatoh/Maple set-in neck and a Linden top, back, and sides. The bound ebony fretboard carries acrylic block inlays across 22 medium frets at a 305mm radius, with a scale length of 628mm (24.7"). The nut width measures 43mm. Neck thickness runs 21mm at the first fret and 24mm at the ninth. Body length is 18 7/8", with a maximum depth of 3 5/8" and a lower bout width of 14 1/2". A Gibraltar Performer bridge with 10.5mm string spacing and a VT06 tailpiece handle the string anchor duties. Both the neck and bridge positions carry Magic Touch-Mini humbucker pickups wound with Alnico magnets in a passive configuration. All hardware is finished in gold. The guitar left the factory strung with a .010–.052 set in standard E tuning.
Owners requiring setup work, fret maintenance, or assistance sourcing compatible replacement parts — including bridge saddles dimensioned for the Gibraltar Performer's 10.5mm string spacing or components sized to the 43mm nut — should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
