Ibanez built the RG7421PFM as part of its long-running RG Series, positioning it as a seven-string solid-body electric aimed at players who required extended low-end range within the RG platform. The model carried the Pearl Black Fade Metallic finish and sat in the production line as an entry point into Ibanez's seven-string RG offering, equipped with passive electronics throughout.
The guitar was constructed with a Meranti body and a three-piece Maple neck of the Wizard II-7 profile — a neck geometry Ibanez developed for low action and fast playing across the extended string count.
