Ibanez built the RGMS7BK as part of the RG Series, positioning it as a seven-string multi-scale instrument. The multi-scale — also known as fan-fret — construction gave each string an individually optimised scale length, ranging from 648mm (25.5") at the treble side to 686mm (27") at the bass side, intended to balance tension across the extended range.
The guitar was built around a Nyatoh body paired with a five-piece Maple/Walnut Wizard III-7 multi-scale neck and a Jatoba fretboard bearing white split offset dot inlays. Jumbo frets were fitted across all 24 positions, with a 400mm radius and a nut width of 48mm tapering to 68mm at the 24th fret. Pickup duties fell to a pair of passive ceramic Array-7 MS humbuckers — one at the neck, one at the bridge — routed through individual Mono-rail bridges per string at a 10.8mm string spacing. All hardware was finished in Cosmo black. The guitar left the factory strung in standard seven-string tuning (low B to high E) with a .009–.059 gauge set.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the individual Mono-rail bridges and the Array-7 MS pickup format are specific to Ibanez's multi-scale RG platform; a qualified guitar technician can advise on compatible replacements and setup adjustments, particularly given the fan-fret geometry's effect on nut and bridge alignment.
