Ibanez built the PSM10BK as part of its PS Signature Series line, positioning it as a signature-model electric guitar finished in black. The model carried the PSM neck designation and sat within a series distinguished by its bound fretboard and block inlay aesthetic.
The guitar was constructed with a poplar body and a maple neck. The bound Purpleheart fretboard featured white block inlays and carried 22 medium frets across a 305mm radius. The nut width measured 41mm, tapering to 56mm at the 22nd fret, with neck thicknesses of 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. Scale length was 22.2 inches. Hardware was finished in chrome throughout, comprising a Gibraltar Performer bridge with 10.5mm string spacing and a Quik Change III tailpiece. Pickup duty fell to a pair of passive, ceramic Infinity R humbuckers — one at the neck, one at the bridge. The guitar left the factory strung in standard tuning with a .010–.046 gauge set.
