Ibanez built the PS120BK as part of the PS Signature Series line, a range designed around a signature artist specification. The model was finished in Black, as denoted by the BK suffix, and sat within Ibanez's signature electric guitar catalogue.
Construction centred on an Okoume body with a Maple top and a three-piece Okoume set-in neck featuring a smooth heel joint. The bound Ebony fretboard carried Acrylic and Abalone block inlays across 22 medium frets, with a 305mm radius and a 628mm (24.7") scale length. Nut width measured 43mm, widening to 57mm at the 22nd fret, with neck thickness running 20mm at the first fret and 23.5mm at the twelfth. A Bone nut fed string tension to a Gibraltar Performer bridge and Quik Change III tailpiece, both finished in Chrome hardware, with 10.5mm string spacing. Electronics comprised a Seymour Duncan '59 Model humbucker at the neck and a Seymour Duncan Custom 5 humbucker at the bridge, both passive Alnico units. The guitar left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard E tuning.
