Ibanez built the PS1CM as part of the PS Signature Series, a line developed around a signature artist relationship. The model carried the Prestige-level build quality that Ibanez reserved for its upper-tier electric guitars, positioning the PS1CM above the standard production range.
The guitar was constructed with a three-piece Maple neck set into an African Mahogany body with a Maple top, joined via a set-in neck with a smooth heel for upper-fret access. The bound Ebony fretboard carried 22 medium frets with Prestige fret edge treatment and acrylic and abalone block inlays, with a radius of 305mm. Nut width measured 43mm, widening to 57mm at the 22nd fret; neck thickness ran 20.5mm at the first fret and 23.5mm at the twelfth. The half-bone, half-brass nut fed into a 628mm (24.7-inch) scale. Hardware was finished in chrome throughout, with a Gotoh GE103B-T bridge set at 10.4mm string spacing and a Gotoh GE101Z-T tailpiece. Pickup duties fell to a Seymour Duncan '59 Model humbucker at the neck and a Seymour Duncan Custom 5 humbucker at the bridge, both passive Alnico units. The guitar left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL120s (.009–.042).
