Ibanez built the GRX70QATRB as part of the GRG Gio series, positioning it as an entry-level double-locking-style instrument within the broader RG family. The Gio line served as Ibanez's accessible tier, retaining RG-derived geometry and a HSH pickup configuration at a lower specification point.
The body was constructed from poplar, topped with a quilted maple art grain surface finished in Transparent Red Burst. The GRX maple neck carried a bound purpleheart fretboard with white dot inlays, 22 medium frets, a 42mm nut width, and a 305mm radius. Scale length was 648mm (25.5"). The T106 tremolo bridge operated with 10.5mm string spacing and was appointed in chrome hardware throughout. The pickup set comprised an Infinity R humbucker at the neck, an Infinity RS single-coil in the middle position, and an Infinity R humbucker at the bridge — all passive, ceramic-magnet units. The guitar left the factory strung with a .009–.042 set in standard E tuning.
