Ibanez produced the GRX70QATEB as part of the GRG Gio Series, an entry-level line built around the RG platform. The model sat at the accessible end of the Ibanez electric guitar range, offering the double-humbucker-and-single configuration and tremolo-equipped format associated with the broader RG family at a lower price point. The Transparent Emerald Burst finish was applied over a quilted maple art grain top.
The guitar was built on a poplar body with a maple neck and a bound Purpleheart fretboard carrying white dot inlays across 22 medium frets. The nut width measures 42mm, widening to 57mm at the 22nd fret, with neck thicknesses of 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. The fretboard radius is 305mm and the scale length runs 648mm (25.5 inches). Hardware was finished in chrome throughout. The T106 tremolo bridge carries a string spacing of 10.5mm. Pickup duties fell to a passive, ceramic-magnet HSH arrangement: Infinity R humbuckers at the neck and bridge positions, and an Infinity RS single-coil in the middle. The instrument left the factory strung to standard E-to-E tuning with a .009–.042 gauge set.
