Ibanez built the TMB2000AWL as part of the Talman Prestige Series, positioning it at the upper tier of the Talman bass line. The Prestige designation placed it among Ibanez's higher-specification production instruments, distinguished by tighter construction tolerances and the Prestige fret edge treatment applied to its medium frets.
The bass was constructed with an alder body and a maple neck identified as the TMB4 profile, carrying a bound Macassar ebony fretboard with acrylic block inlays across 20 frets. The nut width measured 41mm, widening to 62mm at the twentieth fret, with a neck thickness of 21.5mm at the first fret and 24.5mm at the twelfth, over a 250mm radius. Scale length ran 864mm (34 inches). Hardware was finished in chrome throughout, anchored by a Gotoh 203B-4 bridge set to a 19mm string spacing. Passive pickups came from Nordstrand: an NP4 at the neck and an NJ4 at the bridge. The Ibanez Custom Electronics 2-band EQ included an EQ bypass slide switch, with a passive tone control on the treble pot, allowing the player to operate the instrument entirely in passive mode. The instrument left the factory strung E–A–D–G with gauges .045/.065/.085/.105.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — bridge saddles, nut blanks, tuning machines, or pickup covers — should verify dimensions against the measurements above before ordering, and consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier for setup, fret work, or electronics service.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
