Ibanez positioned the TMB2000BZL within the Talman Prestige Series, placing it at the upper tier of the Talman bass line. The Prestige designation indicated domestic Japanese production standards, with the model carrying the TMB4 neck profile across an alder body.
The bass was built around a maple neck with a bound Macassar ebony fretboard, acrylic block inlays, and 20 medium frets finished with Prestige fret edge treatment. The 34-inch scale ran at 864mm, with a nut width of 41mm widening to 62mm at the twentieth fret; neck thickness measured 21.5mm at the first fret and 24.5mm at the twelfth, over a 250mm radius. A Gotoh 203B-4 bridge set at 19mm string spacing anchored the strings, with all hardware finished in chrome. Passive electronics consisted of a Nordstrand NP4 at the neck and a Nordstrand NJ4 at the bridge, fed into an Ibanez Custom Electronics 2-band EQ with an EQ bypass slide switch; the treble pot carried a passive tone control. The instrument left the factory strung 045/065/085/105 in standard E–A–D–G tuning.
